Great Days Out

Isle of Mull

We can recommend a range of great days out from Druimnacroish – taking into account your interests, the weather and how adventurous you’re feeling…  Walking is undoubtedly the best way to fully appreciate the variety of landscape, from mountain and glen to rolling hills, rocky coast and sandy beaches.

Some favourite all-day walks include the Treshnish headland and Ben More, but there are also a number of shorter walks and beaches to visit within easy reach.  The island has a mix of well marked paths and wild walking : your hosts are always available to advise and lend maps and books for the day and (in the unlikely event of bad weather) will help dry out your boots when you get home…

If you’re going to Iona, make sure you give yourself enough time to see more than just the Abbey.  And take time to come back by the scenic route round the sea lochs on the west coast.

Trips to Staffa and the Treshnish Isles run from Ulva Ferry.  Fingals Cave on Staffa and the nesting puffins are a great attraction.  The Isle of Ulva itself is well worth a day out, with good (sometimes challenging) walks and excellent fresh shellfish in the tearoom.

Bring your Bike !  A fair few hills, but a great way to get around and some good and easy off-road routes nearby.

On a rare rainy day, visit Duart and Torosay Castles, and (from 2008) the  Mull & Iona Swimming Pool & Spa at Craignure.

The arts centre  “An Tobar“ in Tobermory and The Old Byre heritage centre near Dervaig are also well covered...

Mull is relatively undeveloped in human terms.  Along with the great range of landscape, activities and interests it is no wonder that visitors return again and again.

Tobermory is the island’s main town (pop 900).  The harbour, surrounded by brightly painted houses, is a well known picture.  There is a good variety of shops and pubs and an excellent arts centre.    Nearby Glengorm Castle has a fairy tale setting, is surrounded by good short walks and converted outbuildings host a gallery and coffee shop.
